March 2021

Beta release of Kiosk Mode

Chippy apps now can be used in a kiosk using Stripe terminal device. Once we go into general availability you will be able to rent the device at fixed monthly rate, all you need to do is plug it in and connect it to the internet. Your existing account will automatically integrate with the terminal and there is no additional setup involved.

While we are in beta we will provide the device and terminal free of charge for a limited set of existing customers, please apply by contacting us via our chat bubble to check if you qualify. Being part of the beta you will get to keep the kiosk for as long as your account is still active. Contact us for details!

Currently we are only supporting NFC and chip based cards, so this rules out EFTPOS swipe cards (without a chip) for now. Support for those will come soon.

Choose to Display by Name for Pickup Board

Now you can choose to use names instead of Pickup Number when displaying orders in the pickup board. Simply change the option on the top of the page when displaying the pickup board.

New design and template customisation for your customer facing web app

We've released a new template that will be used for future updates to the customer facing web apps. This template is currently opt-in and you can always revert to the previous template (now known as the legacy template).

Some of the features in the new template include:

  • Added support for credit cards that require additional authentication
    • 3D Secure 2 authentication (3DS)
    • Verified by Visa
    • Builds the foundation for more payment options soon to come
  • Save state when user accidentally reloads
  • Smoother / snappier experience
  • Better accessibility support
  • Desktop and Tablet support
  • Supports a dark theme / mode
  • Additional customised support that can be easily added - contact us if you need anything and we'll let you know if it is possible

This should help increase your Google SEO rankings and have an improved the customer experience while shopping.

To migrate to the new template, head on over to the Apps section and under settings change the Template value to "Modern". You can choose to deploy to a test app before deploying the live version, it won't be an immediate change if you need to test it before hand which we highly recommend. Please contact us if there are any issues you are experience.

With the new theme, there was some new portal updates along with the new theme

  • Be able to preview the theme
  • Be able to see live updates when changing theme colours
  • Search and filter on products when editing

August 2020

Next day ordering

We've released next day ordering functionality. This means your customers can choose to pickup for tomorrow, and tomorrow's menu hours will be used to show the time selections available.

Head to your store area, under the Pickup tab there will be a new option to enable it

Set this value to "Yes" to enable it.

Your customers will see the option to pickup tomorrow in their cart.

You will need to deploy your app once. After that you can turn it on/off whenever you want without redeploying the app.

This is a minor release which is focussed on busy kitchens to make Chippy platform as efficient as it can be in helping managing orders.

Portal Updates

There are two main features with this update, being able to sell-out time slots, and be able to set components from customisation groups as out of stock.

From the stores area under the Pickup tab you will be able to select timeslots that won't be selectable by the user by choice.

Please note that if the timeslot is the only available slot in the list, then this will still be selected but the user will be informed that it is a busy period. This also doesn't guarantee orders won't be place at those times, i.e. if an order is marked as "As soon as possible" it might still appear around the busy time. This mainly affects ordering ahead of time to mitigate against situations where many orders being placed at the same pick-up time.

Out-of-stock components

You will now be able to place components (customisation items) as out of stock. This is done in the same out-of-stock area in the store area, under the products tab. Components will be marked with a (C) to differentiate them from products.

Daily totals

We've added a new view in the account area for running daily totals. This will show totals for the last 5 days with the ability to export the transactions for each day.

This was a busy month for us as we stabilise the product for the anticipated increase in demand, at the same time providing much needed feature updates to our new customers joining us recently.

Portal Updates

We now provide more information for transactional data on your account. The accounts area will contain two new tabs for Transactions and Payouts.

This tab will give you a transactional level breakdown of all payments, refunds, and payouts associated with your account.

Payout summary of all payments that have been deposited into your account. Plus the current balance still in your Chippy account. The payout can be exported and it will include all transactions associated with that payout.

Quick-service menu wait time

This feature allows you to have specific menus with shortened wait times that can be ordered quickly. This value will overrule the wait time set at the store level allowing cases where you can serve drink and coffee orders quickly reducing the pickup time displayed in the customer app.

This value can be set in the Menu area under the specific menu that you want updated.

Make sure the value set here is lower than the store's minimum wait time in the Pickup tab.

Customer app (website) updates

  • As soon as possible will now appear when the item is available now and the wait time is less than 15 minutes
  • Users will be prompted when the store is Disabled after they click "Start order" (instead of at the end during checkout)
  • Menu hours will be always displayed in the menu page

  • Refunded orders will be marked as Refunded

Notification sounds

There is a new preferences page where you can set notification alerts when receiving orders. These are turned off by default but can be reached by clicking your profile icon in the bottom right, and clicking preferences.

You can set to play a sound when:

  • Receiving an order
  • Order moved to preparing

You can choose a sound type, and pick the option to keep repeating the sound until it is dismissed.

Other updates

  • Printer now supports USB printers in addition to networked ethernet printers. Please see instructions for set up here: EPSON Receipt Printer
  • More stable connection in receiving live orders, will now reconnect in the background
  • Other improvements in the accounts area to improve the onboarding process
  • Various bug fixes
